Beauvain is a rural commune in the Orne, set within the Normandie-Maine regional natural park and connected to the La Ferté-Macé living area. Insee counted 258 residents in the commune’s municipal population in 2023. That figure describes Beauvain itself, not the broader service area. The place is best approached as a lived-in countryside settlement: its church, village paths and links to nearby La Ferté-Macé matter more to a visitor than a concentration of tourist facilities.

The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste holds a documented heritage ensemble that rewards a quiet stop. The French Ministry of Culture records fourteen stained-glass windows, four of them narrative, dating from the nineteenth century. Their scenes follow episodes associated with John the Baptist, including his birth, preaching and beheading, as well as the announcement of the Messiah. The window group was protected as a movable heritage object in 1985. This is a precise, catalogued account of the glass; it should not be expanded into unsupported claims about an earlier church history or local legends.

A different historical view comes from a short archival film rather than a monument. Footage identified by the National Archives and Records Administration documents the arrival of the US Army’s 9th Infantry Division at Beauvain on 16 August 1944 and the welcome given by residents. It offers a specific record of one day near the end of the Normandy campaign. The clip is useful as a visual source, but it does not by itself explain every local wartime experience; pair it with dated archival context rather than treating a few filmed moments as a complete history.

For walking, the local Bocage Ornais association lists a yellow-marked loop of 9.7 kilometres, with 138 metres of ascent and roughly seven kilometres on unpaved paths. A separate botanical circuit is about 900 metres and uses small signs. These routes make the surrounding bocage—the patchwork of fields, hedges and wooded lanes—the main outdoor attraction. Confirm waymarking, access and path conditions locally, especially after rain.

Insee recorded eleven employer establishments at the end of 2023: six in agriculture, forestry or fishing, two in construction, two in commerce, transport or varied services, and one in public administration, education, health or social action. It also counted 36 jobs located in the commune in 2023. These are narrow establishment and workplace measures, not a full list of local livelihoods. The 2024 permanent-equipment inventory does not list several everyday services such as a grocery, bakery, fuel station, pharmacy, doctor, school, library or hotel. Plan practical needs in nearby La Ferté-Macé and verify what is currently open. The town hall is at Le Bourg; the government directory lists Tuesday and Thursday public hours, which should be checked before setting out.
