Baiona: Atlantic memory in the Miñor Valley
Baiona is located in the province of Pontevedra, next to the Atlantic and within the Miñor Valley. The municipality is part of the metropolitan area of Vigo. Its coastal location and the protection of the bay help to understand its maritime trajectory.
History and identity
On March 1, 1493, Martín Alonso Pinzón arrived in Baiona after the first trip to America, making the town the first place in the Old World to receive the news of his return. La Arribada, celebrated in March, remembers that event. The name Baiona has been documented since the 13th century.
