Allariz: Royal Town of Galicia
This town in the province of Ourense has ancient origins, historically linked to the monarchy since Alfonso VII granted it its charter in the 12th century. It was a residence of kings such as Alfonso X the Wise, who spent part of his childhood here and learned Galician-Portuguese in Allariz. Its historic centre, awarded for its urban rehabilitation, preserves Romanesque churches and remains of its old walled enclosure. The Arnoia River flows along its banks, creating protected natural landscapes.
