Lanmodez is a small coastal commune in the Côtes-d'Armor, where the Trieux estuary opens toward the Bréhat archipelago. The municipal page gives the Breton form Lanvaodez and places the village between Tréguier and Paimpol. INSEE counted 394 municipal residents across the whole commune in its 2023 reference population, published on 29 December 2025; the total population is a different figure because it includes people counted separately. The landscape is not just a shoreline: the municipality describes a still-active agricultural countryside, small lanes bordered by stone-and-earth banks, and coastal paths that reach the shore. Its scale invites a slow visit, with the tide and route conditions shaping what can be reached on foot.
Three chapels and layers of belief
The parish church is dedicated to Saint-Maudez, and the municipal heritage pages also identify the chapels of Bonne Nouvelle and Kermassac'h, as well as the former priory church on Île Maudez. Kermassac'h is a particularly well-documented stop: the regional tourism office says a first chapel was founded in 1463 and the present building was reconstructed in 1753. Its enclosure also includes a fountain, washhouse and monumental cross. The same visitor page repeats local stories that associate the fountain at Bouan with healing and Bonne Nouvelle with fertility. These are traditions attached to the sites, not medically verified effects. Île Maudez is across the water; the existence of a former priory does not mean the island is open to casual visitors, so check access before making plans.
A rural coast with working shellfish waters
Lanmodez's own rural page describes about ten farms and identifies Min ar Goas as a maritime activity zone for shellfish cultivation. INSEE's 2023 establishment statistics also show how important the primary sector remains: 12 of the 22 employer establishments in the Flores table were in agriculture, forestry and fishing. A separate business-demography table counts 24 active non-agricultural market-producing legal units, a different statistical scope rather than a contradiction. The local pages identify oysters and mussels as part of the maritime economy, but current sales points, opening times and activity access need direct confirmation. This is a working coast as well as a scenic one; keep to public paths and respect tidal flats, cultivation plots and private access routes.
Walking routes: check which version is current
The municipality describes a circuit of the three chapels that uses part of the GR34 and gives it as 12 kilometres. The regional tourism office currently lists the Boucle des 3 chapelles at 9.9 kilometres, with 125 metres of ascent, around three hours, yellow local marks and red-and-white GR34 markings along the coastal section. Because these published distances differ, use the latest downloadable route sheet and follow signs on the ground rather than assuming that older maps describe the same itinerary. Other municipal paths link the shore and countryside, including routes toward oyster-growing waters. Some stretches were still identified by the municipality as needing further opening or improvement. Check closures, ground conditions and the tide, and do not cross to rocky islets or private land without a clear public right of access.
Visitor services and nearby connections
The municipal information describes a communal randonnée lodge in the village, listed with 28 places, and local pages identify the main administrative contact in the Bourg. Capacity and booking arrangements can change; confirm the current offer directly before relying on an overnight stay. Nearby Paimpol and Tréguier provide broader services, while Lanmodez itself rewards visitors who come prepared for a small rural settlement rather than expecting a full resort infrastructure. Bring water and weather-appropriate clothing for the coastal circuit, and check tide tables before any walk that approaches foreshore or islands. Schedules for any local events or accommodation should be confirmed with the municipality or operator, because online descriptions may be older than the practical arrangements on the day.
