Aulnat in three videos: village history, a medieval cemetery and airport archaeology

Three distinct views of Aulnat: a town introduction, Inrap’s cemetery research and the archaeology beneath the airport.

A brief introduction to Aulnat places the commune east of Clermont-Ferrand and identifies the airport as part of its territory. It is a useful first orientation to a town that is both a residential community and a metropolitan transport location. The film is an older snapshot, so use current municipal and operator pages for population figures, routes and practical arrangements.

Inrap presents its research on the medieval and modern cemetery at Cours de la Liberté, where excavations recorded hundreds of burials and traced changing funerary practices. This short institutional capsule adds a human-scale chapter to Aulnat’s history. The excavation is a documented archaeological site, not a place to enter or an open-air display.

The Musée de Gergovie hosts a much longer account of archaeological work beneath the airport before runway construction. It follows evidence across several periods, from Hallstatt settlements through Roman and early-medieval activity, and explains why this stretch of the Limagne holds more than a modern airport story. Allow about fifty-two minutes; the research context does not mean the active airport or runway is open for visits.
