Sens in three films: city, cathedral and history

Three distinct videos introduce Sens through a tourism overview, the cathedral restoration and a longer historical walk across the town’s past.

The official Sens Intense film is a short tourism introduction rather than a monument-by-monument lecture. Its role in this selection is to give visitors a first visual impression of the town and its visitor identity; it works best as an orientation piece before planning a walk. It dates from 2019, so opening arrangements and current services should be checked separately.

This DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté film takes a closer look at Saint-Étienne Cathedral and the restoration work then underway on its south tower. It is valuable for seeing the building as a cared-for monument and for understanding the scale of conservation, not simply its finished appearance. The film was published in 2021; the western façade restoration was completed in 2025, so it should be read as a record of that earlier work phase.

Lorànt Deutsch’s 23-minute episode follows Sens across several historical periods, from antiquity through the Middle Ages, Renaissance and modern era to the present. Its broader sweep complements the focused cathedral film and the tourism overview. Use it as an accessible narrative introduction, then compare its historical storytelling with the town’s museum and heritage interpretation when exploring details.
