San Gimignano in video: medieval streets, Torre Grossa and frescoes
Walk San Gimignano's historic centre, climb Torre Grossa and look inside its frescoed buildings.
San Gimignano's towers are visible from a distance, but their effect changes once you are inside the streets. The opening walk lets the town unfold at pedestrian speed: stone lanes lead into squares, and the vertical towers repeatedly appear above the roofs. Look at the spaces between monuments as carefully as the skyline. The centre is a lived arrangement of routes and gathering places, not only a collection of tall buildings.
The Torre Grossa film answers a question the street view raises: what does this medieval town look like from one of its towers? The climb gives the lanes a clear pattern and opens the Tuscan hills beyond the walls. It is worth considering separately from the ordinary walk, both for the ascent and for time at the top. Confirm current access before adding the climb to an itinerary.
