Halsua on film: rural museum, perennial garden and Töppönen

Three distinct videos introduce Halsua’s farm heritage, a public garden and the post-glacial boulder landscape of Töppönen. Check current opening and access details before visiting.

The local-history museum’s introductory film offers a way into Halsua’s rural collections before a visit. The museum describes two farmyard settings in Meriläinen village, more than 5,000 objects and buildings that trace everyday rural life from the eighteenth century onward. The film was made for the museum by Haven Media, according to its published description. Treat it as an introduction to the collection, not as a guarantee that the museum is open on a particular day: the museum says summer is its regular season and other visits should be agreed in advance.

This short municipal garden film focuses on Halsua’s Perennapuisto, a 0.7-hectare public garden created by the Perennaario project between 1997 and 2000. The municipality’s page describes perennial beds whose colours change as plants flower at different points in the season. The video, produced for the municipality in 2020, gives a distinct horticultural angle on a small rural centre, far removed from the forest and bog routes. Its age also matters: use it to understand the garden’s identity, then check current local information for access and the best time to see the flowers.

Jukka Koivukoski’s 2022 film is devoted to Töppönen luolikko, the extensive boulder field that the municipality describes as an ancient shoreline formed after the last glaciation. Its subject is geological landscape rather than a built attraction, which makes it a useful complement to the museum and garden films. Local information describes boardwalk access and a fire place, but weather and ground conditions can affect a visit. The video’s description calls the area about 7.5 square kilometres; that is a landscape-area figure, not a walking distance. Check the marked approach and current conditions before setting out.
