Kronoby in three films: Korpholmen, its church and cycling life

Three distinct views of Kronoby: an archaeological excavation, the wooden parish church and a municipal cycling campaign.

This archival field diary records the first day of an archaeological excavation at Korpholmen. Its description mentions earlier interpretations, the team’s research aims and initial finds, including ceramics, animal bones and a fishhook. It offers a glimpse of how the hospital site is investigated, rather than a complete account of its history. The municipality’s museum information provides the wider context for a place associated with people isolated from society in earlier centuries.

Nissinet’s film introduces Kronoby’s wooden parish church through its building history and interior. Its description dates the current church to 1822 and refers to a 1796 plan and builder Henrik Kuorikoski; the parish says the church was consecrated in 1826. The film is a useful first look at the building, while present visiting hours should be checked with the parish.

Kronoby Municipality’s cycling-campaign film presents “Pigga pedister – Pirteästi pyöräillen”: making cycling more visible and encouraging residents to try it. It belongs to a mobility project, not a current visitor rental offer. Traficom’s project record describes later work on a longer-term e-bike loan system and cycle-tourism information; check with the municipality for what is available now.
