Puumala in three videos: Norppapolku, the archipelago by bike and its bridge

Three views of Puumala: the Saimaa Seal Trail, a cycling route across the archipelago and the Puumalansalmi bridge.

Visit Puumala’s short film introduces Norppapolku through its pine woods, esker ridges, sandy bays and rocky Saimaa shore. The official route information describes a 13-kilometre loop as well as three shorter circuits, so the footage is a useful way to picture the landscape before choosing a distance. It is not a live trail report: ground conditions, fire restrictions and access can change. Check the current trail map, wear footwear for uneven natural paths and remember that the Saimaa ringed seal may not appear on a walk; wildlife viewing should never involve approaching or disturbing it.

This Visit Puumala video promotes cycling on the local archipelago route and its longer Saimaa connections. Its subject is the way bridges, islands and seasonal ferries make the lake landscape a route rather than a backdrop. The municipal tourism page describes the Puumala circuit as about 60 kilometres and explains that Norppa II carries cyclists and bicycles between Lintusalo and Hurissalo, while the car ferry at Hätinvirta serves a different crossing. Timetables and capacity are seasonal, and the video is promotional rather than navigational; use the current route page to plan crossings and return travel.

Visit Mikkeli’s “Puumala silta, Puumalan salmi” is a brief bridge-focused look at the road crossing over Puumalansalmi. It works well alongside the village walk because the 781-metre bridge, viewing lift, harbour and deep shipping channel together explain why Puumala grew as a transport junction. The clip is a visual introduction to the landmark, not a practical update on lift access or harbour services. Check local visitor information before making a special trip for the viewpoint, particularly outside the summer season.
