Lovisa in three videos: Svartholm, Strömfors and the old town

Three city-channel introductions to Lovisa’s sea fortress, historic ironworks village and wooden town centre.

The official Visitloviisa channel’s 86-second introduction points toward Svartholm’s vaults and military history. It is a useful first look at the island fortress that once guarded the entrance to Lovisaviken, but the short promotional format cannot explain every stage of its construction or destruction. For that, follow the marked route around the gates, bastions and inner yard, and read the city’s history on site. The clip was published in 2017; it is not a current ferry notice. Boat service, restaurant opening and accessibility should be checked before making the crossing.

This 82-second Visitloviisa clip presents Strömfors Iron Works as the summer season opens, with an invitation to discover its historic setting and activities. It gives the rural part of the municipality a distinct place in a Lovisa visit: the old smithies and water-powered industrial landscape tell a different story from the wooden centre and sea fortress. The video dates from 2017, so its welcome and seasonal details are historical. Museums, craft businesses and food services now set their own calendars; check those directly before travelling the roughly eighteen kilometres from the centre.

The city channel’s 56-second Old Town video is a concise introduction to Lovisa’s wooden urban core. Its title and description make it a useful visual companion before a walk through the lower town, where historic houses remain part of a lived neighbourhood rather than a reconstructed set. The clip dates from 2016 and should be treated as a snapshot of the town’s visitor identity at that time, not an up-to-date guide to shops or services. Use it to orient a stroll, then consult current municipal visitor information for what is open during your visit.
