Grignan in three films: village history, restoration and a château from above

A regional television story, a record of restoration work on the château’s south façade and an aerial portrait of Grignan’s landmark palace.

France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes places Grignan in its “Un village, une histoire” series about regional villages. It is a compact television introduction to the town’s character and past, useful before following the lanes from the lower village up toward the château. The value is the regional lens: Grignan appears as a living settlement as well as the setting for a celebrated residence. The programme is from 2018, so treat it as cultural context; it cannot supply present opening times or replace the dated architectural record.

This film comes from the Drôme departmental council and documents a restoration project on the château’s south façade, with a site meeting dated March 2010. Instead of presenting the building only as a finished Renaissance landmark, it gives attention to the work and decisions involved in conserving it. That makes it a useful companion to a visit: the château’s present appearance is also the result of restoration. The recording is historical documentation of one project, not a report on today’s condition or access arrangements.

Produced by Les Châteaux de la Drôme, this aerial film looks down on the château at Grignan, a Renaissance palace that dominates the village from its rocky height. The bird’s-eye perspective helps viewers understand how the residence, the church below and the clustered streets occupy the same slope. It is the clearest of these three videos for reading the site in the landscape, while the town’s heritage pages provide the chronology. Published in 2016, the film is a visual overview rather than a current visitor guide.
