La Alberca: mountain architecture and community life in Salamanca
La Alberca is located in the Sierra de Francia, south of the province of Salamanca. Its center brings together half-timbered, stone and adobe houses arranged in narrow streets around the Plaza Mayor. History and identity
The territory was repopulated in the Middle Ages and developed a mountain identity marked by religious institutions, brotherhoods and community traditions. La Alberca was the first historical-artistic complex declared in Spain, in 1940.
