Cavallasca: historic hillside settlement near Como and the Swiss border

Cavallasca is a historic settlement in the province of Como, today a frazione of San Fermo della Battaglia after the municipal merger that took effect on 1 January 2017. For centuries it was a small autonomous community in the Como area, with documented institutional history from the late medieval and early modern periods. Its position on the hills west of Como, close to Switzerland, has long given it a strategic and residential importance. The main landmark is the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, an 18th-19th century religious complex in the historic centre.
Population: about 2,700 inhabitants as a frazione.
Distance: about 4 km west of Como and close to the Swiss border.
Highlights: the church of San Michele Arcangelo, the historic village core and panoramic views over the Como area.
