Reims is the most populated commune in the Marne and nicknamed “the city of coronations” because of its numerous kings and historical coronations. It is also one of the most important cities in the Grand Est region.

Reims is nicknamed “the city of coronations”: Clovis was baptized on the future site of Notre-Dame Cathedral, then many Carolingian and Capetian kings were crowned there for more than ten centuries, from Louis the Pious in 816 to Charles X in 1825. The city is today the most populous sub-prefecture in France.
