Igüeña is a Spanish municipality and place in the Bierzo region, León province, autonomous community of Castilla y León.
The first news of human settlement in the municipality dates from the time when the Asturians populated the area, having cataloged several castros, later romanized in the municipal term, such as Los Castros, Las Coronas, El Castro and Los Rubios in Quintana de Fuseros, related in Roman times to mining, as well as those of La Reguerina and La Torca in Igüeña, and in Colinas that of La Torca del Barreiro.
Precisely in Roman times, in the vicinity of the river Tremor, at its beginning, in Tremor de Arriba, vestiges of Roman gold mining are preserved, of which the canals can still be seen today.
Later, already in the Middle Ages, the town of Igüeña was included within the Kingdom of León, within which the repopulation of the towns of the municipality would have been undertaken, there having been some human settlements at this time in the payments of San Adrián and San Esteban in Quintana de Fuseros, in Las peñas de San Miguel in Iguëña, or in Santa Ana de Rodrigatos de las Regueras, where the existence of a medieval necropolis is presumed.
Already in the Contemporary Age, in 1821 Igüeña was one of the localities that became part of the Province of Villafranca or Vierzo, although when it lost its provincial status at the end of the Liberal Triennium, in the division of 1833 Igüeña remained attached to the province of León, within the Leonese Region.
