Tropea: the village on the cliff and the Marina of the Costa degli Dei
Tropea is a Calabrian municipality overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the western part of the Poro promontory and in the center of the Costa degli Dei. The historic center occupies a cliff approximately sixty meters high, while the Marina develops below, close to the sea and the port.
History and identity
The historic town was built on the rock overlooking the sea and was once enclosed by walls, with access through doors equipped with defensive systems. This physical separation between the upper part and the Marina continues to determine the urban form. With only 3.66 square kilometers, Tropea is the second smallest municipality in Calabria.

The main route connects the center on the cliff with views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Marina, where the beach and port are located. The peripheral localities of Carmine and Campo show the most agricultural and residential part of the small municipal territory.
