History and identity
In the 1st century BC, the Romans founded Vesunna on the Isle plain; it became the capital of the Petrocore people. The current city of Périgueux was born in 1240 from the union of the City, heir to Vesunna, and Puy-Saint-Front. The commune expanded further in 1813 with the former commune of Saint-Martin.
