Limoges, capital of the historic province of Limousin, is a city rich in history and culture, known for its porcelain workshops and its role in the luxury industry. It is also one of the largest cities in New Aquitaine.
History and identity
Founded ex nihilo around the year 10 BC by the Roman Empire, Limoges became one of the most important Gallo-Roman cities at that time. It became an important city in the Middle Ages, marked by the cultural influence of the Saint-Martial abbey. In 1768, the discovery of a kaolin deposit allowed the development of the Limoges porcelain industry, which made the city world famous.
